Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question for us? Here are a few common ones we’ve been asked:

1. Are the puppies’ parents health tested?

All of our breeding dogs have been certified and given a clean bill of health through Paw Prints Genetics.

See our Paw Prints Profile to view each dogs’ genetic profile.

There should be a link under the meet the parents section with links to each dogs’ genetic profile.

2. What are the sizes of the puppy’s parents?

Look under our Meet the Parents section for specific information.

3. Have the puppies been socialized?

Besides mom doing an excellent job at teaching her babies proper dog behaviour and manners, the other dogs that live with us also interact and play with the puppies. Also, they will have been loved more than you can imagine. I have four children who all love to snuggle and play with them as do their friends.

4. What vaccines has the puppy had? How many shots has he received and when will the puppy be due for his next puppy shot?

Puppies sold at 9-10 weeks old have received the DAPPv vaccine (parvovirus, parainfluenza, adenovirus, distemper), and internal/external parasite control, health cert & microchip. Puppies sold at 12 weeks will have their 2 rounds of DAPPv and if puppies are sold at 12 weeks and going outside of Canada they will also be given their rabies and bordetella vaccine.

5. Have the puppies been dewormed?

All puppies will come to you having had internal and external parasite control.

6. What visits have the puppies had with the veterinarian? Have they been examined and declared “healthy”? If not, what problems have they had? Have they been on any medications?

Before coming home with you, the puppy will have been given a clean bill of health from the vet. Additionally, your puppy can have its individual genetic testing done through Paw Prints, for the additional cost, if desired. Irregardless, puppies are sold with a health guarantee. In the unlikely event, your puppies testing does not come back clear, you will be given the option of having your deposit refunded or to have your puppy at a discounted price. Please note that being a carrier does not necessarily pose a risk for your puppies health, so long as the trait is recessive.

7. What are people saying about Red Bred dogs?

Please see our Testimonials page.

8. Does your breeder require a breeder’s contract?

Yes! A contract is very important for all parties involved, both you, the buyer, the puppy, and me (the seller). It ensures that my puppies are being sent to homes that will take good care of and love them. It is also important for you, as the buyer, to have a health guarantee. For the puppy it ensures that if for any reason you are unable to care for him or her that they will come back to me. My home was the first home they knew and were loved in. I will ensure that instead of the puppy ending up in a shelter another home can be found on which the puppy will be loved and taken care of.

9. What is the breeder currently feeding the puppy?

Your puppy is fed Nutri Source. This is a premium puppy food and it is recommended that your puppy be fed a premium high-quality food throughout its entire life. You will be given 1000g of food to take home with you.

Proper and responsible breeding, appropriate health care and puppy socialization have a big impact on how healthy your dog is and what kind of dog your puppy will turn out to be.
